Ribbon blenders are machines used for creating a homogenous mixture of materials. Also referred to as powder blenders, these machines are primarily used for mixing dry solids. The materials mixed in these blenders may vary in density, though most are implemented for the mixing of powdered and pre-sieved components. 

How Stainless Steel Ribbon Blenders Work

The main parts of these blenders are a U-shaped horizontal trough and a helix agitator with a pair of helical blades – the ribbons. Ribbon blenders shift around materials at a rapid pace to create thorough mixtures; this is done by the helix agitator, with the outer ribbon moving material towards the center of the trough while the inner ribbon moves the material towards the edges. 

Many ribbon blenders have two helix ribbon agitators, providing a triple mixing motion and increasing the efficiency at which the materials are blended; this is much faster, though it requires higher horsepower.
